Chapter 4

The female Detective, Yona hurried to her officer to collect her things. Any actual valuable tools to help find clues would benefit greatly, her mint colored eyes shifted from different containers in her shelves.

Even her fellow officers didn't expect her to show up to work an hour early but it was a custom she often did when working on an important case. Some questioned it and some looked the other way.

She knew she had to get back to that office again for more leads to the cause of his death. After all, nobody consumes poison because they want too. With her leads looking dreary and bare, it was obvious this was something secret. Something Andrew stepped in and didn't keep his mouth closed about.

Yona frowned for a moment, hand squeezing the edge of the book shelf as she closes her eyes. Despite her determination, her worries would make her waver only so slightly.

I only hope it doesn't affect me badly in the future.

With a sign she grabbed her bag and left the office, locking the door on the way out. The secretary with the fluffy black hair waved bye "Good luck Detective~!". Her tail twitched before giving a nod back and taking off.

Don had already been waiting patiently in the car like a good dog, his suit tidy and fur combed with precision. His eyes immediately locked on Yona when she reached the car, hopping into the Passengers seat.

"Ready?" The pooch asked, receiving a slow nod as Yona pulled out her notepad. The car rumbled and shook from the engine, New York was especially busy on Mondays. Back to work and the start of a new long week again.

She pursed her rosy lips in thought, giving a side glance to Don "After we go to the officer, drop me off at the house of Andrews Sister" she stated. The dog trying to look her way but also focus on the roar became challenging. He turned down a lane and drove slowly "Sure thing, Detective".

"Uhh, erm, Detective?" Don started, his brow sweating. She raised a brow and lowered her book "Hm?" She always disliked the way he started topics. As if he was always guilty of something, and even that put her on edge. She didn't need to focus on cases and himself.

Don sighed and spoke, staring out at the road "The sister, Andrews I mean. The gals name is Vicky". Her long black tail shifted a little as she watched him closely. A natural effect she causes on others with her silence. "Good to know but why do you mention her with such sincerity?" Yona's question made Don flinch.

"Oh"  the demon detective spoke teasingly. The dog immediately becomes flushed and defensive "What!? Oh?? Wait... Does- It's not like that!" He panicked on embarrassed and Yona snorted, turning away and focusing on something other than him.

She hadn't cared much for others personal affairs, even if there was nothing going on- she just didn't care.

Shortly after the long and rough busy ride to the business building, she made her way to the crime scene shortly after. The room seemed cold and the faint smell of that strange and unfamiliar cologne was there again.

Don followed in after and started flocking towards the colorful paintings on the walls. "Don, does the smell in the room seem familiar to you?" She replied on his nose better than her own. He's a dog, why shouldn't she? His knowledge on perfume was very limited but she needed any lead possible.

He faced the demon, her long white silky hair slipping back and her shoulders made him forget himself before long. Taking a long whiff of the air made him sneeze dramatically. "Smells expensive!" He coughed, blowing his nose into his sleeve.

She turned away from the scene and avoided stepping on anything with white tape around it. Heading to the desk again to shuffle through files and any hidden compartments.

Her hand grabbed for the last bottom drawer, giving it a tug only for nothing to happen. "Hmm.." her eyes narrow, looking for some keys or lockpick. A strange drawer with no keyhole but definitely something hidden. She yanks out the drawer from above that one. Leaving it on the red carpet floor.

The bottom drawer was now in sight, her hand reached in, with gloves on, grabbing for the first thing she grabbed. Her face barely inches from squishing against the desk itself. "Detective..?" Don called, walking over to her on the floor, her tail whipping back and forth with emotion.

He watched as she slowly pulled multiple items out, all in some kind of vanilla folder and closed. He knelt down beside her and watched as she finished.

"Some have weight, this could be evidence but I want to check first" she spoke, her eyes focused on the strange folders. She opened the first and Don went for one as well, but immediately drew back with a slap to his hand.

"Not without gloves Don, it's for our safety" he gave an awkward smile but understood.

Each folder had one clipping of new articles and one document. Some folders had a random handful of change, buttons, and or even hair clips. "A strange assortment, any of them you recognize?" She lifted her gaze to see Don shake his head.

One of the documents was written in a hurry but enough to be readable. Her mint colored eyes narrowed skimming the page "Twenty five thousand... That's quite a lot owed. Andrew seemed to have been lending money to someone".

"That much?! For what?!" The surprised pooch started, the Detective gave an uncertain look "Unless he was investing into something I can't say. It doesn't mention an account number or bank, not even the location of the money".

She sighed in thought, folding the papers back into the vanilla folder until another note slipped out, folded in half. Don's brows rose at the sight of it, setting the papers aside Yona grabbed for it. Unfolding it to read its contents.

The officer itched and waited "Well, Detective?". She glanced at him with a frown "It helps a lot more than the other paper did. It reads the twenty thousand amount is going into an account name by someone referred to as Mr. Drew."

Don froze on spot "Drew? As in THE Drew?". Yona looked at him confused, as if she should've known who that was but waved it off "It's a clue but we can't say for sure. The account name goes by that but we can't say it is their account. We have a number, it's the closest we got".

The dog nodded, standing up and waiting for the Detective to clear everything into bags for evidence. She stood and dusted off her brown white streaked leggings. Her heels pressing into the worn carpet.

"But who is the Drew you're thinking about, it is a leading case" she started, Don following alongside her without much struggle than before but most definitely dreaded those stairs on the way back.

"Well back in 1916 there was a big thing about casinos going out of business. Then some random toon just came and bought one of them, and many of the Richest toons in New York followed him." Don's excited tone pushed Yona to become suspicious, clearly this big shot was more than the name let on.

But Drew was such a common name, it could be anyone's account by the name of Drew but the twenty thousand amount makes one nervous. Yona couldn't help but feel anxious that there was something else going on, that this case wouldn't lead her down a dark ally alone and forgotten.

The dog opened the door for her as he continued speaking "Bringing more money into the cities and casinos then they've seen in a lifetime! He directs movies, plays, songs, owns drug stores.. it's endless! It's hard not to know of that name".

"But if it wasn't him, it could be anyone" she exclaims but Don seemed adamant on his theory "Trust me on this Detective. Expensive cologne and that much money being sent to someone? It doesn't just happen" she sighed, knowing what he said was true. She knew that herself but hearing it somehow made her nervous.

Why am I acting so strangely?

With the end of their conversation, they both found themselves soon parting. Don had driven Yona further away from town to where this suspect Vicky was supposedly living. The buildings got more simple and old but it seemed where Andrews Sister lived was far too nice to be surrounded by this type of neighborhood.

"Are you sure you don't want me to wait?" Don frowned, ears pinned back as he was unsure to leave the Detective here in such a strange place. She may be a demon but she was still a woman, and that made in anxious. With a dismissive hand she got out, leaning on the car window "I'll be alright, I want to head somewhere afterwards by myself".

He frowned, not feeling assured.

"You're a phone call away Don, I'm not worried, and you shouldn't be too" the dog sighed, knowing better than to argue with the Detective. He wanted to push a bit more but she was always winning in the end.

"You sure?" He tried one last time.

She gave him a look before stepping away, hands coming to her hips "I'm sure, now get going and work on that report. I expect two pages long" his serious comment made him annoyed. He groaned dramatically and huffed getting ready to leave, clearly being childish "Call me if you need me Detective".

With that she now faced the huge mansion before her, it was nonetheless still pretty sketchy out here. What a weird place to put such a fancy house. It's like screaming to rob me.

Yona made her way up the steps before meeting the large door, with a sign she banged a couple times for good measure and politely waited for a response. Suspiciously glancing over her shoulder a few times.

She heard a click sound from the other end and soon the door came opening, her head tilting to peak inside when she stopped to see a toon dressed in servants attire.

"Good evening, what can I do for you?".
